How To Treat your Back Pain

What Possible back problems Could I Have?

Without seeing a specialist and having a physical examination, it is very hard to self-diagnose your back injury. However below are some of the most common back injuries we treat at Fit2Function Clinics.
Disc Herniations/Bulges
Lower Back Pain
Facet Joint Inflammation
Upper Back & Neck Pain
Poor Posture

What Causes My Back Pain?

It is very difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of your back pain. Apart from direct trauma to your back, most injuries in this area are caused by multiple problems over a long period of time. Below are some of the contributing factors that could be causing your back pain.
An increase in the amount of exercise you have been completing, such as squats or deadlifts.
Poor posture when sitting.
A lack of core strength.
A physical job putting more stress on the lower back.
Being overweight.
Direct trauma to the back, such as a fall or accident.

Why Do I Suffer with Back Pain?

It is estimated that 1 in 3 people now experience back pain in their lifetime. As our lifestyles have become more sedentary and less focus has been placed on regular exercise, back pain cases have increased.

Back pain can normally be classed into 3 main categories:

F2F Primary Icon

This presents itself as a dull ache in specific areas of your back. Normally it is caused by an overuse or misuse of specific muscle groups.

You will experience symptoms such as radiating pain, pins & needles & numbness. This is caused by increased pressure on your intervertebral discs and spinal nerves.

You can get a combination of symptoms with mechanical issues. Normally mechanical problems are a precursor to neurological and muscular back issues.

How To Help Treat Your Back Pain at Home?

If you are experiencing back pain, you can try these steps at home to help treat the problem. Please note this is general advice and may not work for all back pain cases. If you have tried these steps and are still experiencing pain, then please seek professional advice.
Apply Ice to the painful areas, to help reduce inflammation and pain. Complete this 2x a day for 5-10 minutes.
If you are experiencing muscle cramps or stiffness, please use heat instead.
Be more mindful of your posture when seated. Placing a cushion behind the lower back when seated can help with this.
Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise.
Take anti-inflammatory medication.
Increase the number of anti-inflammatory foods in your diet to help the healing process.
Try adjusting your sleeping position. Placing a pillow between the knees, whilst lying on your side, is normally the most back friendly sleeping position.

"It worked - and faster than I could have dreamt possible. I had a chronic groin injury which had suddenly started getting worse. With a few weeks of physio from these guys it was completely healed and I had 100% flexibility back. Not only that but they were able to greatly speed up my recovery from a knee injury. I was told it would take a year to get over by NHS but now I'm walking on it normally and able to dance and work out with almost no limitations. I am now fitter and better educated than when I walked into the clinic and will be using what I learned from this process in my ongoing fitness. Put bluntly, these guys are worth it."

“My name is Farid, I’ve been coming to Fit2Function for three months now having previously been to so many places. I tried everything acupuncture, massage, osteopaths, you name it. When I first came to Fit2Function, I had a high 8/10 pain but with the help of Laser Therapy and Shockwave Therapy I am almost back to normal. I feel better and I am now able to work out in the gym two times per week with no limitations. I would recommend Fit2Function clinic to everyone with lower back pain. It’s the best thing to do for your health and good luck to everybody.”

Farid Hamjab, 52, London

"I found out about Fit2function clinic through Instagram and I contacted them because I had Sciatica and shoulder pain. I ended up taking two treatments to deal with both the sciatica and shoulder pain. I couldn't move my arm and the pain used to wake me up during the night. We've started with Shockwave Therapy and Laser Therapy to reduce the pain and kick start the healing. From not being able to move my arm, I now have full function, no pain at all and able to play Handball and Volleyball again"
