Shoulder Pain

Why Do I Suffer with Shoulder Pain?

As we have evolved the shoulder joints have become more prone to injury & pain. This is because of the increased load they are under throughout our daily lives. Just think about the amount of movement our shoulders complete every day. Whether it’s: reaching for something high up, carrying bags, or even working out in the gym, they are constantly being put under pressure.

What Causes My Shoulder Pain?

It is very difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of your shoulder pain. Apart from direct trauma to your shoulder, most injuries in this area are caused by multiple problems over a long period of time. Below are some of the contributing factors that could be causing your shoulder pain.
An increase in the amount of exercise you have been completing in the gym
Poor Posture when seated and exercising
Muscular Imbalances around the shoulder joint
A physical job putting more stress on the shoulder joint
Previous injuries to the shoulder joint
Direct trauma to the shoulder, such as a fall or accident

What Possible Injuries Could I Have?

Without seeing a specialist and having a physical examination, it is very hard to self-diagnose your shoulder injury. However below are some of the most common knee injuries we treat at Fit2Function Clinics.
Rotator Cuff Tears
Shoulder Impingement
Shoulder Ligament Damage
Frozen Shoulder
Cartilage Tears

How To Help Treat Your Shoulder Pain at Home?

If you are experiencing shoulder pain, you can try these steps at home to help treat the problem. Please note this is general advice and may not work for all shoulder pain cases. If you have tried these steps and are still experiencing pain, then please seek professional advice.

Apply Ice to the painful areas, to help reduce inflammation and pain. Complete this 2x a day for 5-10 minutes.

If you are experiencing muscle cramps or stiffness, please use heat instead.

Try using the non-injured side for daily activities.
Take more breaks when using your laptop or phone.
Be more mindful of your posture when seated. Placing a cushion behind the lower back when seated can help with this.
Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise, specifically those involving the arms.
Take anti-inflammatory medication.
Increase the number of anti-inflammatory foods in your diet to help the healing process.
Try to sleep on the non-injured shoulder or on your back.

"It worked - and faster than I could have dreamt possible. I had a chronic groin injury which had suddenly started getting worse. With a few weeks of physio from these guys it was completely healed and I had 100% flexibility back. Not only that but they were able to greatly speed up my recovery from a knee injury. I was told it would take a year to get over by NHS but now I'm walking on it normally and able to dance and work out with almost no limitations. I am now fitter and better educated than when I walked into the clinic and will be using what I learned from this process in my ongoing fitness. Put bluntly, these guys are worth it."

“My name is Farid, I’ve been coming to Fit2Function for three months now having previously been to so many places. I tried everything acupuncture, massage, osteopaths, you name it. When I first came to Fit2Function, I had a high 8/10 pain but with the help of Laser Therapy and Shockwave Therapy I am almost back to normal. I feel better and I am now able to work out in the gym two times per week with no limitations. I would recommend Fit2Function clinic to everyone with lower back pain. It’s the best thing to do for your health and good luck to everybody.”

"I found out about Fit2function clinic through Instagram and I contacted them because I had Sciatica and shoulder pain. I ended up taking two treatments to deal with both the sciatica and shoulder pain. I couldn't move my arm and the pain used to wake me up during the night. We've started with Shockwave Therapy and Laser Therapy to reduce the pain and kick start the healing. From not being able to move my arm, I now have full function, no pain at all and able to play Handball and Volleyball again"
